Scientific leadership

Helping define how the industry measures quality

Our founder and CEO started BioForm Solutions to bring flow cytometry to the probiotics industry — and BioForm was the first to bring it to market. That changed how product quality is defined: manufacturers gained a direct, dependable measure of the cells in their products, so they can stand behind their label claims with confidence — which translates into more effective products and greater customer trust. We haven't stood still since; we continually develop new proprietary assays and refine our methods to keep pace with increasingly complex products.

A better way to measure viability

BioForm introduced flow cytometry to probiotic testing over a decade ago — measuring live, injured, and dead cells directly instead of inferring viability from colonies on a plate. AFU measurement is quickly becoming the gold standard for probiotic quality.

Extending the toolkit with dPCR

As products grew more complex, we brought Digital PCR (dPCR) into our workflow and optimized its protocols for probiotics, adding absolute, strain-level quantification — answering the identity and composition questions viability testing alone cannot.

Active in the industry, not just the lab

BioForm is an active member of the International Probiotics Association (IPA), where our founder serves on the board and contributes to several working groups. We also partner with manufacturers on research shared with the field through papers and posters.

Who we are

Scientists who solve the problem, not just run the test

BioForm Solutions was built on a belief: difficult scientific questions deserve thoughtful analytical approaches, and every project begins with understanding your question before selecting the method that can answer it.

Deep scientific expertise

Senior scientists lead every project. The people who design the method are the people who run it and interpret the result.

Fit-for-purpose methods

We match the method to your question. When a standard panel cannot answer it, we develop one that can.

Transparent partnership

Clear methods, clear assumptions, clear limitations. You always know what we did and why we did it.

At BioForm Solutions we don't simply deliver data. Our team works with customers to understand what the results mean and how they should influence future decisions.

Founder & CEO

Dana Buckman has built a distinguished career by applying more than 30 years of expertise in flow cytometry from cancer and autoimmune research to the probiotic and microbiome industries.

As Founder and CEO of BioForm Solutions, she has helped bridge the gap between clinical research and practical microbial applications while advancing the use of flow cytometry as an alternative to traditional probiotic testing methods.

She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado and previously served as a senior scientist with CancerVax, Arena Pharmaceuticals, and Pfizer before founding BioForm Solutions.

Our scientific team

Our scientific team spans Senior Scientist, Research Associate, and QC/QA and Laboratory Management roles, with extensive experience in regulated research and testing facilities.

Every BioForm project is led by a Senior Scientist — and every engagement includes direct consultation before samples are submitted, to confirm the method fits your goal, and again after results are delivered, so the data turns into a decision.
